It is named after Edmundo Dantes, the hero of the novel written by ALexandro Dumas in the book “The Count of Montecristo”. It is the second new cigar with a 52 ring gauge, which is also called the parejo size, which was crafted by Habanos, SA within one year.
Similar in popularity are the Diplomaticos, a premium brand of cigar produced in the island of Habanos as well. It was the first new brand of cigar after the Cuban Revolution. Unlike Montecristo that was initially catering to only the high people of the state, Diplomaticos are sold to the public.
